About Your Guide

IMG_0124Karen Gustafson graduated from Starr King School for the Ministry in 1985.

She served as :

Minister of Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, Minnesota from 1986-2007.
Associate Minister of the First Unitarian Society of Madison, Wisconsin from 2007-2013 where she led Quest: A Spiritual Journey.

Since her retirement, in addition to helping individuals in transition, Karen has been a consultant to congregations in transition; including: the Unitarian Society of Fridley Minnesota and the Unitarian Church of Evanston Illinois.

In 2001, after 15 years with the Duluth congregation, Karen felt the need to either recommit to the next phase of growth in the church or enter the search process. Through a series of chance circumstances she was able to arrange her own guided life review experience.

She found a willing and qualified guide who supported a process of reflecting on her own life and experience; her transitional style; her gifts and her growing edges. It was a rare opportunity to, in the words of Adrienne Rich, “make a study” of her own life.

The insights gained during those days served as a source of important discernment for the rest of her ministry. It also inspired her to offer this experience to others.
